Rose Snellgrove Derriso, 89

Tomlinson Funeral Home and Crematory announces the death of Rose Ellen Snellgrove Derriso, age 89, of Swainsboro, on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Pruitt Health Hospice after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 22, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Reverends Jim Harrell and Tom Tidwell officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Interment followed in the Youmans Cemetery in Nunez.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Rose was born October 27, 1932, in Covena, to E.W. “Cat” Snellgrove, Sr. and Rosa Mae Brown Snellgrove. She attended school in Wesley, Georgia and was a 1950 graduate of Swainsboro High School. Rose was a homemaker, former assistant postmistress of the Nunez Post Office, and later worked for the local Wal-Mart where she retired after 19 years. During her time at Wal-Mart, she became affectionately known as “Miss Rose.” She was a member of Swainsboro First Baptist Church and both the Fidelis and Agape Sunday School classes. Mrs. Derriso is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse L. “Dick” Derriso, Jr.; brothers, E.W. “Buck” Snellgrove, Jr., Luther Elvis Snellgrove, William Lovette Snellgrove, and Elma Snellgrove; sisters, Estelle McKay, Thelma Shehan, Atha Bearden, and Van Snellgrove Gay; and son-in-law, Vaughn Riner.

Survivors include one son, Lynn (Sue) Derriso of Sylvania; one daughter, Marsha Derriso Riner of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Angela (Todd) Hooks of Nunez, Jay (Tiffany) Derriso of Sylvania, and Dent Derriso of Sylvania; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
