Rosa Marie Handberry Burroughs, age 81, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, January 14, at 1 p.m. at Emanuel County Institute Auditorium with Pastor Johnny Branch officiating and Pastor Kenneth Rouche presiding.
Rose Marie was born August 1, 1941, to the late George Willie and Elizabeth Malone Handberry. She graduated from high school in 1959, and enrolled in the Levenias School of Cosmetology in Augusta where she earned her certificate of completion and passed the state board in 1961. In 1975, Marie and her husband, Louis, opened a grocery store and gas station in Millen, and added a beauty salon where she styled hair for more than 20 years. Marie retired from Twin View Nursing Rehab in 2002 as a CNA. Mrs. Burroughs is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Juanita Byrl Brinson, Ann Hand berry Brinson, and Angelia Walker; brothers, Lloyd, George, Clifford, Anderson, Nathan, Thomas, Leon “Archie B”, and Rev. Edsell “Leroy” Handberry.
Mrs. Burroughs leaves to cherish her memories with her two daughters, Janet (James) Greene of Marietta and Felicia (Derek) Steverson of Loganville; two grandsons; one granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Mosley’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
