Mr. Roger Eric Wheeler, 58, of Swainsboro, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Emanuel Medical Center. Graveside service will be Thursday, November 21, at 2 p.m. at Wheeler Cemetery with Reverend Morris Brantley officiating. Family will receive friends Wednesday, November 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors.

Pallbearers will be Kirtus Smith, Josh Hall, Paul Purvis, Anthony Douglas, Mark Driggers and Norman Sherrod.

Roger was born November 27, 1965, in Swainsboro, to the late Roy Eugene Wheeler and Viley Linda Woods Wheeler. As a boy, he was raised in Emanuel and Treutlen counties with his two brothers, Robbie and Elec. Roger met his high school sweetheart, Sharon, in 1985, and they soon married and had three children, Eric, Monica and Ben.

Over the years, Roger worked hard in different areas of construction work. In 2005, he started his own contracting business, Roger Wheeler Construction. Roger worked for many families doing various jobs. He knew the value of hard work and the importance of family and friends. Roger enjoyed spending his time at the river fishing for red breast and crappies. Some of his favorite memories were of the Ogeechee River with his sons and the River Rats crew. Roger always had a love for camping and spending time near the water. He spent the last several years enjoying time with his family at Clark Hill Lake and the Altamaha River.

Roger’s greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He would not let his grandchildren come in or leave his house without giving him big hugs (or, as he liked to call them, “big squeezes”). Roger never missed an opportunity to tell his grandchildren how much he loved them and was proud of them.

The last couple of years, Roger struggled with vascular dementia, but he never forgot his loved ones or lost his sense of humor. “Roggie” will be missed by everyone that loved him. His family holds comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and resides in the Kingdom of Heaven with his loved ones that have entered before him. Mr. Wheeler is preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife, Sharon Wheeler of Swainsboro; sons, Eric Wheeler (Whitney) and Ben Wheeler (Erin), both of Swainsboro; daughter, Monica Wheeler Curl (Chesley) of Swainsboro; brothers, Robbie Wheeler and Elec Wheeler (Allison), both of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Raylen Curl, Brandt Wheeler, Brinley Wheeler, Grace and Maggie; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
