Rescued

Over the years I have witnessed so many compassionate animal lovers who stop to feed, what I call, community sprays. Recently the latest two have been the two yellow Lab puppies living on the railroad tracks behind Harveys. These two pups are off-springs from an old street wise, cream colored, mother dog who has deposited litters of puppies all over this town for years. She lives by her wits and is too smart to be caught. We have all watched these two playful pups romping and playing on the tracks and sidewalk for months. They may have caused some of you to slam on brakes when their playing entered the street. The animal shelter tried many times to trap the pups, but they were too well fed by animal lovers to enter the trap. I would like to give you an up-date on why you haven’t seen them lately.( This is one of those, I have some good news and some bad news stories. ) The bad news is the boy pup was hit by a car. When he hadn’t been seen for days, two rescuers went looking for him. They found him under an old shed unable to move. They rushed him to an emergency vet, but he had multiple fractures in his legs. He was suffering and in great pain. They had to make the heartbreaking decision to have him put down. The good news is the female has gone from living on the streets to living in a home with a family who love her very much. She has been given the name Gracie. Her rescuer was so determined to get her off the streets before the Pinetree Festival that she spent 4 hours up there working with her. She used her own rescue dog to befriend the lonely girl Lab. The two dogs bonded and played together for hours. Gracie trusted her new friend, which made her apprehensions easier. Gracie was taken to her new home, given a bath, and met all the other canines and family members. She found a chair to curl up in and made herself at home. Thank you to all the animal lovers who take in or care for all our homeless strays everywhere. Wouldn’t be nice if we didn’t have this problem to deal with? I know I will never see this happen in my lifetime, but perhaps if we can teach and encourage our future generations to get their pets spayed/neutered then we wouldn’t have the problem of pet over-population and sprays everywhere. Please do the right thing. Get your pets fixed.

Thank you,
