Pottery workshop comes to the library

Posted

Franklin Memorial Library recently hosted a pottery workshop. The workshop was attended by 19 people and led by Jill Carter from Southern Pottery and Art Studio. Festive clay pickup trucks carrying a fresh Christmas tree were painted with a pre-picked palette of seasonal colors. This workshop was made possible by generous funding from the Georgia Arts Council Vibrant Communities Grant and Mill Creek Foundation.

Georgia Council for the Arts received Vibrant Communities grant applications from schools, libraries, cities, historical societies, community theaters, Boys & Girls Clubs and arts and other related organizations from across the state. Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) is a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development whose mission is to cultivate the growth of vibrant, thriving Georgia communities through the arts. Funding for Georgia Council for the Arts is provided by appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Franklin Memorial Library is proud to be this year's grant recipient, and, along with Mill Creek Foundation, are able to offer this unique experience to the community. Southern Pottery and Art Studio will engage participants in hands-on pottery creations and painting on objects in four separate workshops: Truck Pottery, Piggy Bank Pottery, Door Hanger Sign, and Welcome Front Door Sign. Be on the lookout for dates and timed of upcoming workshops.
