Oliver defeats Canady for County Commissioner District 5 seat in last week’s primary runoff

Runoffs for Georgia’s primary election took place Tuesday, June 21. At a local level, Timothy Oliver defeated incumbent James Ray Canady for Emanuel County Commissioner District 5. Of the 363 total votes cast, Oliver received a total of 256 votes while Canady received 107.

At a larger level, a total of 228 votes were received for lieutenant governor – democrat division. Charlie Bailey defeated Kwanza Hall by receiving 154 votes. Hall received 74.

For the democratic Secretary of State ballot, there were 226 votes cast, with Dee Dawkins-Haigler receiving 70 votes and Bee Nguyen receiving 156 votes.

Raphael Baker, democratic candidate for the commissioner of insurance seat, was defeated by Janice Laws Robinson. Of the 217 votes cast in this division, Baker received 100 and Robinson received 117.

William “Will” Boddie, Jr. was deemed the peoples’ choice for the commissioner of labor, democratic primary. He received 156 votes of the 228 total votes. His opponent, Nicole Horn, received 72.

An unofficial and incomplete summary for all contestants, districts, tabulators and counting groups was also released by the Emanuel County Elections and Registration Office on June 21 and reports as follows:

Advance Voting – Ballots, 114; Voters, 114; Turnout, 0.83%

Absentee by Mail –Ballots – 40; Voters, 40; Turnout, 30.29%

Provisional – Ballots, 0; Voters, 0; Turnout, 0.00%

Total – Ballots, 597; Voters, 597; Turnout, 4.36%
