Mr. Olin D. Mercer, 86, of Garfield, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 14, at 2 p.m. at Twin City First Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Harrell officiating. Interment followed in the Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, October 14, at Twin City First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Ashley Denney, Zack Denney, Hagan Mercer, Bill Thompson, Hunter Mills, and Jake Mills. Honorary Pallbearers were the past and present employees of ITT Rayonier.

Mr. Mercer was born October 8, 1935, in Wausau, FL, to the late Brown Mercer and Vera Owens Mercer. He worked with Florida Forest Service for several years, then began working in land management with Rayonier from 1967 until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Mercer loved quail hunting, raising and training bird dogs, following his boys around to all their sports games, often bragging that he never missed a game. He was a member of Twin City First Baptist Church. Mr. Mercer is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, T. D. Mercer and Howard Mercer.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nina Jones Mercer of Garfield; sons, Marty (Julie) Mercer and Greg Mercer, both of Twin City, and Ken (Barbara) Mercer of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Brandy Snyder, Randi Mills, Ashley (Lynnsey) Denney, Zack Denney, Madison Mercer (James), and Hagan Mercer; great-grandchildren, Christian Brendel, Jake Mills, Hunter Mills, Ellee Denney, Evan Denney, Addison Denney, Channum Denney, Harper Denney, and Cohen Ward.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
