An election board hearing was held Wednesday, August 11, at 5 p.m. at the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners Office to discuss the consolidation of four voting precincts in Emanuel County. Marty Ray served as the election board’s spokesperson and presented consolidation options and reasonings, such as voting options available (advance voting and absentee voting), the large amount that the taxpayers would save by combining the precincts, and the short distances between where the precincts are currently located and where they would be moved to.
County voters of the affected precincts were permitted to speak and expressed concerns against the consolidation. The main reasons being easy access and familiarity of precincts as is.
County Commissioner James Ray Canady also spoke out in opposition of the consolidation of precincts, stating there was plenty of revenue available for the continuation of operation for precincts to remain the same.
No actions were taken by the board.
