Mrs. Nina Francis “Fran” Gay, 64, of Swainsboro, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Community Hospice in Vidalia following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 8, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathan Shepherd officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at Chapman Funeral Home. Interment followed in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hal Wilson, Henry Terwilliger, Dess Smith, Colby Smith, Bill Simmons, and Trey Dekle.
Mrs. Gay was born September 4, 1957, in Swainsboro, to the late Carlton Smith Dekle and Hortense Fountain Dekle. She enjoyed gardening, and also loved to read and had many, many books. Fran was a member of First United Methodist Church in Swainsboro. Mrs. Gay is preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Gay of Swainsboro; sons, Adam (Chasity) Gay of Swainsboro, Jonathan (Kandace) Gay of Claxton, and Daniel Gay of Statesboro; grandson, Rexton Gay; brothers, Larry (Linda) Dekle of Walnut Cove, NC and Jim (Linda) Dekle of Swainsboro; several nieces and nephews.
