A female driver was rescued by bystanders after her vehicle propelled into a Maple Street pond in Twin City. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the evening of Friday, July 3.

Emergency response units from Emanuel County EMS, firefighters from Twin City and Swainsboro, sheriff’s deputies, Twin City police, and Georgia State Patrol troopers, were dispatched to a drowning with a car in the pond.

The first arriving firefighters reported the victim out of the car with CPR being performed. The victim began breathing and regained consciousness. She was transported to Emanuel Medical Center and was later transferred to Augusta University Medical Center by an AirEvac helicopter.

It appears the driver lost control of the car, struck a trash container, and entered the pond, where it sank below the water. After several dives by a tow truck team, the dripping wet, full-sized, 4-door Pontiac Bonneville was removed from the pond.
