More Teacher Appreciation

Thank you cannot be said enough, so here is more. When I found the poem below, I knew I must share.

Why God Made Teachers by Kevin William Huff

When God created teachers, he gave us special friends

To help us understand his world and truly comprehend.

The beauty and the wonder of everything we see,

And become a better person with each discovery.

When God created teachers, He gave us special guides

To show us ways in which to grow so we can all decide

How to live and how to do what’s right instead of wrong.

To lead us so that we can lead and learn how to be strong.

Why God created teachers, in His wisdom and His Grace,

Was to help us learn to make our world a better, wiser place.

I started teaching very early in first grade. My favorite pastime was “playing school”. I lined up my dolls and assumed the role of their teacher. Basically, I went over every subject of that school day with my array of dolls ranging from Raggedy Ann to a small rubber doll that I could feed a bottle, and she wet her pants. I questioned each doll and also gave the answers. I was a stern disciplinarian and often corrected with the ruler. I knew from those days forward that I wanted to sit in front of a class in the big desk with many pencils and know all the answers.

When that time did come for me, I tried to be a teacher with all of the attributes of teachers who had meant so much to me. To all who are teachers, were teachers or hope to be teachers: May you be proud of the work you do, the person you are and the difference you make, have made or will make. A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart. Write to Shirley at sptwiss@gmail.com.
