SPD holds first Awards banquet
Chief Randy Ellison held Swainsboro Police Department’s first annual Awards Banquet at the Richard L. Brown Ballroom at East Georgia College on Friday, Feb. 25. The awards program was implemented in 2010 to recognize members of the department for various achievements in the field of law enforcement.

Gail Williamson named publisher
On Tuesday, March 1, Gail Williamson was named Publisher of The Forest Blade. She replaced former publisher Wally Gallian, who accepted another position within the Smith Newspapers family. Williamson had been with The Blade for the past 15 years. ”My goal is to continue to serve our community. I look forward to deepening my relationship with the community and our readers,” Williamson said. Burn Foundation receives 3rd place
On Tuesday, Feb. 1, representatives for Swainsboro Fire Department went to the State Capitol to receive a 3rd place trophy in the 2010 “Give Burns the Boot” highest money raised per capita in the state for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. The money was raised through the annual Brun Pageant which is held the first weekend in April and the Boot Drive which is done in the fall of each year. The money raised goes to support medical facilities in Georgia, for fire prevention and to assist burn survivors in Georgia. The Swainsboro division of the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation would like to thank all the citizens of Emanuel County for your support.
