SHS Band gets superior rating at Statesboro

Swainsboro High School’s “A” Band received a unanimous “superior” rating in performance from all three judges in the First District music festival. The festival was held Friday at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro. The “B” Band, a component of the high school band, participated for the first time at the festival this year.


License bill signed

Governor Jimmy Carter signs House Bill 340, Mar. 3, which will increase hunting and fishing license fees by $1 each. Also, a $2.25 mountain trout stamp and a $3.25 big game license, required for hunting deer and turkey, were created by the measure. Present for the signing were Joe D. Turner, Director of the State Game and Fish Commission, George L. Smith II, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Representative Howard Rainey, Chairman of the House Game and Fish Committee, who introduced the bill.
