See my dinosaur
Jay Irvin and David Clemens, from left, students in Mrs. Annette Woodard’s first grade class at SPS, show the dinosaurs they made in class to Dr. Hulon Madeley during a program at the school. Dr. Madeley, professor of geology at Emanuel County Junior College, presented a program on dinosaurs during a regular class session for the first graders. Fossils, dinosaurs, samples of whale bones and other items were inspected by the students during the presentation.



Lawmen of the year
Swainsboro Exchange Club President Jerry Cadle, second from right, presents awards to Lawmen of the Year named in Tuesday night’s meeting. Accepting the “Bobby Powell” Award, named in memorial to the late Police Chief Bobby Powell, is Police Chief Bill Hendley (center). Other Lawmen of the Year include left, Fire Chief J.D. Wilkerson, State Patrol Trooper Danny Terry, and Deputy Sheriff Hildred Corbin. Observing ceremonies is guest speaker L. Carey Bittick, Monroe County Sheriff and president of the National Sheriffs’ Association.
