Charlie Blake was congratulated by Roger Peebles of Swainsboro Kiwanis Club for having won first place honors in the annual Emanuel County Pine Tree Festival essay contest. Blake, a junior at Emanuel County Institute, is the son of Samuel and Dolores Carlyle. Lei Stefensen, also a junior at ECI, took second place honors.
Collection donated
Mrs. Christine Spivey Rountree donated a thimble collection of over 200 pieces to Franklin Memorial Library. The thimble collection had belonged to the late Mrs. Ethel Stafford Spivey. Mrs. Spivey began the collection as child. Accepting on behalf of the FML of Trustees was Mrs. Grace Smith. The collection consisted of over 200 pieces set in a handsome antique wood curio cabinet.
