Memories

Posted

Growing up, I have been able to obtain numerous memories of my childhood. My family has always made sure I had a safe, fun, and memorable life. I am blessed to have lived the life I have so far. One family member that always made sure I enjoyed life was my grandpa, otherwise known as Pa. The loads of memories I have with that man are incredible. There are two stories that come to mind that I would like to share.

Ever since I was a baby, my family has always gone shopping together, no matter how big the group was. My Mama and Mema were the big shoppers in the family, but never me and Pa. I remember always going to the Augusta Mall, sitting on the benches or in the food court, and Pa telling me stories. My favorite story goes like this: Pa and I had gone for a ride in the truck one day, and a beaver somehow ended up chewing our seats up. Pa had the bright idea to sit on buckets, thus inventing bucket seats. I have no clue how he came up with these, but somehow he always knew how to make shopping fun as a child.

Another story that I frequently tell people goes like this. The family was having a pool day at Mema and Pa’s house, and I was swimming with my cousins, Dylan and Lily. As kids, our favorite game was lifeguard. One kid would act like they were drowning and the others would swim to them and “heroically” save the drowning child. Well, I guess my acting skills must have been incredible as a child, because one minute I am fake drowning, and the next thing I know, Pa is jumping in to save me…phone, keys, and wallet still in his pockets and all. He may have been a tad angry after he found out that I wasn’t actually drowning, but at the end of the day, we were all laughing at the situation.

There are so many more stories I could tell about growing up. Pa has passed on now, but I know in my heart that I’ll see him in heaven, and he’ll have even more stories to tell me. For now, I just have to live on remembering and reminiscing over those stories and memories.
