Maurice Leora Williams Heard, age 94, passed away at her home in Atlanta on June 24, 2022. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, July 9, at 2:30 p.m. with a graveside service at Swainsboro City Cemetery with words of comfort by Elder Delmus Mosley.

Mrs. Heard was born June 2, 1928, to the late Professor Nathan F. Williams and Arsula Williams. She graduated from Swainsboro Industrial High School, then attended Tuskegee Institute where she earned a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1947. After graduating, Mrs. Heard taught for the Georgia public school system for two years and was inspired to further her education. She returned to Tuskegee Institute in 1949, and earned a Master’s in Education in 1952. Mrs. Heard then attended the University of Michigan to earn a PhD, and was employed as a Guidance Counselor for Atlanta BOE. She retired in 1994 after being an educator for more than 40 years. Mrs. Heard is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Heard; brothers, Pleasant Williams and Newell F. Williams.

Mrs. Heard is survived by her sister, Ella Norma Williams of Riverdale; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mosley’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
