Ms. Mary L. Watson, 89, of Swainsboro passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Emanuel Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 5 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Burt Flanders and Elder Tommy Rountree officiating. Interment followed in New Beulah Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday, November 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.In compliance with the guidelines set by the CDC, 6--feet rule was enforced during visitation and service.

Pallbearers were Ricky Collins, Danny Canady, Sammy Jones, Richard Jones, Larry Hall, and Craig Griner.

Ms. Watson was born November 24, 1930 in Covena to the late Joe Lawson & Maggie Hall Lawson Chapman. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeff A. Watson; brother, Randall Chapman; and  sister, Christine Jones. She was a hardworking, Christian mother. Ms. Watson loved fishing, sewing, and working in her yard. She was known as “Grandma” by the community. Ms. Watson was a charter member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Augusta, and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church since 1982.

Survivors include her son, Joe (Linda) Watson of Twin City; daughter, Peggy (Fred) Braswell of Swainsboro; daughter-in-law, Wendy Watson of Dadeville, AL; brother, Joe Wayne ( Doris) Lawson of North Augusta, SC; sisters, Lucy (Harry) Helmy of Brunswick, Jo Lou (John) Shopland of Mountain Home, ID, and JoAnne Richardson of Waynesboro; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
