Mrs. Martha Y. Claxton, 88, of Swainsboro, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021, at her residence following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 6, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Roger Holly officiating. Interment followed in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. The family received friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were John Benjamin Claxton, Ernest Murray, Jr., Spencer Murray, Conner Murray, Tony Dechert, Brad Freeman, Kyle Claxton, and Evan Claxton.

Mrs. Claxton was born August 19,1933, to the late George A. Youngblood and Mary Lou Black Youngblood. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and was always on hand to celebrate all the special occasions and holidays with her family complete with her ever popular “Nannie” cake. The cake was delicious but the love was the ingredient that will be remembered and retold for generations. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Mrs. Claxton is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 66 years, John Claxton; brothers, Wilbur Youngblood, Elmo Youngblood, and Kenneth Youngblood; sisters, Mary Y. Lovelace, Mildred Y. Moore, Sara Y. Whitley, Audrey Y. Murphy, Dot Y. Bell, and Margaret Y. Orlando.

Survivors include her sons, John G. Claxton (Denise) of Swainsboro and Eddie Kim Claxton (Shelia) of Harrison; daughter, Denise Claxton Murray (Ernie, Sr.) of Evans; grandchildren, Monica C. Woodward, April C. Dechert (Tony), John Benjamin Claxton (Kelly), Wesslie M. Freeman (Brad), Ernest Murray, Jr. (Lindsey), Spencer Murray (McKenna), and Conner Murray (Natalie); great-grandchildren, Martha Woodward, Kyle Claxton, Jonna Woodward, Evan Claxton, Allison Woodward, Barrett Freeman, and Andie Freeman; several nieces, nephews, special caregivers, and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
