Mrs. Marse Sherrod Spence, age 95, of Midville, died Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Friday, September 18 at 11 a.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Randy Carnley officiating. Interment followed in the Union Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by Rev. Franklin Sasser. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. CDC social distancing guidelines were observed and masks were encouraged.

Pallbearers were Spencer Brannen, Jimmy Sherrod, Don Sherrod, Terry Lumley, Tyson Sherrod and Johnny Hurst.

Mrs. Spence was born February 23, 1925 in Midville to the late Brady and Lannie Watkins Sherrod. She was a homemaker, Co-Owner of Spence Package Shop, worked many years for Twin City Manufacturing Co. as a seamstress, and retired from Ithaca Ind. After retirement Mrs. Sherrod chaperoned the girls at the Modoc Group Home, was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church, enjoyed fishing, flower gardening, and traveling. Mrs. Spence was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and loved her precious fur baby, Skippy. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bert Spence; sisters, Sally Oglesby and Edith Spence; and brothers, Esteen Sherrod and Grady Sherrod.

Survivors include daughter, Doris Dailey of Millen; son, Ronnie Spence (Judy) of Midville; grandchildren, April Lumley (Terry), and Melissa Brannen; great-grandchildren, Ansley Lumley and Spencer Brannen (Ansley); great-great-grandchild, Clarke Brannen; and nieces, nephews and extended family.
