Local qualified candidates seeking appointment in 2022 elections

Several qualified candidates are seeking appointment to office in the upcoming 2022 elections. At a local level, seats open for bid include Districts 2, 4, 5 and 6 on the county’s board of education and Districts 2, 4 and 5 on the commissioners board. Emanuel County citizens will also place votes for candidates running for the offices of solicitor general and soil and water conservation. With nine terms to be filled, six seats run unopposed with current incumbents seeking for reappointment while the remaining three political chairs have 2 – 3 candidates competing for placement. Candidate names to be expected on this year’s election ballots are as follows:

Board of Education

District 2: Cherie Hooks and Phyllis Dixon (I)

District 4: Tracy Ivey, Jonathan Hampton and Tanya Lane (I)

District 5: Johnny Parker (I)

District 6: Sandra Swinney (I)

County Commissioners

District 2: Keith Thompson

District 4: Jim Sherrod

District 5: Timothy Oliver (R), Cameron Beasley (R) and James Ray Canady (I) (R)

Solicitor General

Connie Terwilliger (I) (R)

Soil and Water Conservation

Sidney Lanier

The primary election date for the 2022 election is May 24 with a primary runoff election set for June 21. The general election date for this year’s voting will take place November 8. Runoffs for the general election will follow on December 6.
