Local Groups Collect Christmas Items for Veterans

A project led by RadioJones, which operates local radio stations WXRS, WJAT, The Rocket, and Magic 98 has taken new life this Christmas, thanks to the support of local organizations such as the Emanuel County Veterans Center.

The project, known as “A Very Merry Veterans Christmas,” was the brainchild of Lea Fountain, host of A Good Country Morning with Lea, the live local morning show that airs on WXRS 100.5 FM. As an on-air personality for Dublin’s Big 103.1 FM, also operated by RadioJones, Fountain was aware of dozens of Veterans housed in the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center who celebrated the Holidays quietly, often without family or basic comforts to brighten their spirits during this special time of year.

Fountain took matters into her own hands, and with the support of RadioJones’ Dublin stations, she initiated the project which partners with local organizations and businesses to collect needed items for upwards of 300 Veterans in the VA Hospital. After much success in the Dublin area, the project has grown to include the Swainsboro and Vidalia areas.

One of the radio group’s outstanding local partners in this year’s collection drive was the Emanuel County Veterans Center. A collection point was set up at the center, and thanks to the generosity of its members and local citizens, a van full of items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, socks, soap, and puzzle books were delivered to the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center for distribution to Veterans in need.

The Emanuel County Veterans Center and RadioJones look forward to the continued growth of the “Very Merry Veterans Christmas” project as a simple way to spread Christmas cheer and to give back to the Veterans who sacrificed so much for this fine country.

RadioJones owns and operates 11 stations along the I-16 corridor, including Superstar Country WXRS 100.5 FM, The Rocket 93.5 FM, WJAT The Patriot 95.3 FM, and Magic 98.1 FM in Emanuel County.
