The Wiregrass Chapter Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting on Thursday night, April 14, 2022, at the New China Restaurant at 6:30. With Vice President Steve Burke presiding in the absence of President Wilder Smith, there were 16 in attendance. The program for the evening was presented by Mike Lisenby. Mike is one of several spokespersons for the Veterans of the Emanuel County Library for this years "Wreaths Across America". WAA is a national project to honor those veterans who have served their country from the Revolutionary War up until December 17, 2022 by placing a wreath on their grave on that day. This year our veterans group has identified over 800 veterans graves that are buried in just four cemeteries in Emanuel County out of the more than 160 cemeteries. The cost of placing a wreath on a veterans grave is just $15.00 and the veterans group needs your help in identifying your veteran that is buried in these 4 cemeteries that is not marked as a veteran: Swainsboro City Cemetery, East Brook Cemetery, Early Settlers Cemetery and the Baptist Church Cemetery beside the First Baptist Church. Mike said that more information will be coming out soon about where you can pick up a form to identify your veteran.
