The 42-21 shellacking the Bulldogs put on Lincoln Co. at their home field last season must have added a little motivation to their game plan. The Red Devils shutout the Bulldogs Friday, 28-0, spoiling their home opener at Rountree Stadium. Before the Bulldog defense could break a sweat, Lincoln Co. had put up 14 points on the scoreboard in just 8 plays. “Lincoln County just came out early and hit us in the mouth,” commented football coach Chris Kearson. “They scored quick on back-to-back drives. Although we adjusted and played better in the second half, we’ve got some work to do.”
To the Bulldog defense credit, they only allowed one other offensive touchdown in the game coming late in the second quarter. After a porous first quarter, the Bulldog defense held Lincoln Co. to just 87 offensive yards in the final three quarters. The Red Devils scored on a pick six late in the fourth quarter for their final points. Unfortunately, the Bulldog offense was ineffective at moving the ball against Lincoln Co. defense with several three and out possession holding ECI to just 127 yards, 54 rushing, 73 passing, during the game.
Hopefully the Bulldogs can get in a full week of practice this week preparing to host Dublin. The Irish are currently ranked seventh in class A, Division one.
