Letter to the Editor: 'Good, honest, and Christian people' still exist

Posted

Dear Editor,

My nephew, Ben Trimble, is in the music business in New York. He had been dreaming about a two-month travel venture through the states, visiting family, friends, and sites along the way.

He left New York on Amtrac, arriving in Savannah, and purchased a bicycle to begin his journey. Statesboro was his first night’s stay with his new bike, then coming to Swainsboro to visit family and stop at the cemetery along the way.

When he finally pedaled to Twin City, being so very hot in 90+° weather, Ben stopped at this station and mentioned he would give someone $20 to drive him to Swainsboro. Mr. Rodney Sellers told Ben he would be glad to give him a ride.

They began the short trip and enjoyed their conversation along the way. As they passed the cemetery, Ben told Mr. Sellers he was going to visit family there, so Mr. Sellers turned around and went back to the cemetery for Ben to visit his grandparents’ and uncle’s gravesites. Mr. Sellers offered to drop Ben off at his aunt’s house, but Ben felt he was so tired, hot, and smelly that he would clean up and stay at a motel that night. Mr. Sellers called three motels and got a room for Ben.

When they arrived at the motel, not only did Mr. Sellers pay for the room, but he would not take the $20 offered for the trip.

I am one of Ben’s aunts, and I know that we still have good, honest, and Christian people in the world. Thank you, Mr. Sellers, for your kindness to our nephew as he continues his journey.
