Dear Friend,
We had a busy week in the legislature as Crossover Day quickly approaches.
Crossover Day is the deadline for a bill to pass out of either legislative chamber. Bills that fail to do so are no longer in consideration during the current session. These bills, however, can be carried over and voted on next year.
As I am sure you have read in the news, much of our time this week was spent on election reform legislation. It is imperative that we restore confidence in our elections and to achieve that, we must ensure there is transparency, uniformity, and security in the voting process. I have been working on nearly ten election bills, and I won't stop fighting until we have meaningful reform.
We had the honor of recognizing Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold Melton as he recently announced that he will be stepping down in July. Chief Justice Melton has been a great public servant and is one of the brightest legal minds in the Peach State. Thank you for your years of service!
The highlight of my week is spending time with constituents while they visit the Capitol. This week, I was grateful to spend time with Representative Jan Tankersley and Annalee Ashley who serves as Chief of Staff to the President and leads the Office of External Affairs. Let me know when you are in Atlanta - you never know who you'll run into!
