We are close to wrapping up the 2021 Legislative Session. March 31st will mark Sine Die - the final day of the session. Once the General Assembly adjourns Sine Die, the governor has 40 days to sign or veto legislation. The governor can also do nothing, as he or she is not required to sign bills and resolutions in order for them to go into law. Unless vetoed, each piece of legislation that reaches his desk will go into law.
We have a busy few days ahead, but keep reading to learn more about this past week at the Capitol.
As you may have seen, on Thursday we passed The Election Integrity Act of 2021 which the Governor signed into law shortly thereafter. While there is a lot of attention and fake news surrounding this great piece of legislation, it is important to look at the facts. SB 202 helps make our elections fair, accessible, secure and transparent by doing the following:
▪ Requires photo ID to request an absentee ballot.
▪ Prevents fraud by requiring ballots to be printed on security paper.
▪ Creates a voting-fraud hotline.
