State Board of Education Twelfth District Public Hearing

The State Board of Education will hold a public hearing for citizens in the Twelfth Congressional District on Monday, April 18, 2022. The meeting will be held from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Metter Pre K-8, Big Wood Room, 33661 Highway 129 South, Metter, GA 30439.

The purpose of the hearing is to hear comments from interested citizens and educators within the congressional district regarding the performance and problems of public education. Persons wishing to speak should sign in upon arrival.

NOTICE OF HEARING

Notice to the public is hereby given that on April 27,2022, at 11 o’clock a.m., in the Superior Court of Emanuel County, at the courthouse in said county, a hearing will be held in the case of the State of Georgia v. Emanuel County School District, on the petition to validate general obligation debt of the Emanuel County School District in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $5,000,000 for the purpose of financing the acquisition, construction, and equipping of certain capital outlay projects of the Emanuel County School District and to pay capitalized interest on such debt, which purposes were authorized by the voters of the Emanuel County School District voting in an election held November 2, 2021 on the question of whether or not to impose a special one percent sales and use tax for educational purposes for a period of time not to exceed 20 calendar quarters to raise not more than $20,000,000 for the purposes of acquiring, constructing and equipping certain capital outlay projects for the Emanuel County School District The approval by the voters also constituted approval of the issuance of general obligation debt of School District in the principal amount of $5,000,000 for such capital outlay projects and the payment of capitalized interest on such debt.

At the hearing all persons having a right to be heard with respect to said general obligation debt and the validation thereof and all other issues to presented to the court, may be heard.
