After six months of cancelled competitions, Milan Lawrence earned third place against 50 athletes at the September 13, 2020 Bootlegger Triathlon in Dawsonville. This multi-sport event required competitors to complete 250 yards of swimming, 9 miles of biking, and 2.25 miles of running.
Lawrence has previously competed in over 15 triathlon competitions within Florida and Georgia.
“It felt a little strange competing again, but I was ready for it,” explained Lawrence.
Ronald Lawrence, a Swainsboro High School graduate, and Leigh Lawrence, an Ohio native, are the parents of Milan. She is the granddaughter of Reverend Richard Lawrence Jr. and Edna Lawrence of Summertown. Milan was blessed with her middle name, Evella, from her dearly departed grandmother, Evella Lawrence of Summertown.
On August 3, 2020, at age 16, Milan graduated from Athens Technical College’s GED program. Currently, she is a freshman at Athens Tech. In January 2021, Milan plans to apply for admission and transfer into the United States Coast Guard Academy.
