Lanier-Moore VFW Post 5745 Turns 75

On Feb. 15, 1946, 56 individuals from Emanuel County, who had not many years before, volunteered again to bring a Local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post to Swainsboro. Named in honor of the first two individuals from Emanuel County killed in World War II, Julian D. Lanier and John J. Moore, the Lanier-Moore VFW Post 5745 has been representing veterans and their families for the last 75 years.
On Feb. 15, 2021, at a small ceremony at the Emanuel County Veterans Center on Kite Hwy., the post was issued several mementos of their 75 years of service to their veterans and community. Senator Billy Hickman, Georgia State Senator of the 4th District, presented State Senate Resolution #74 commending the post for their long service to the community.

Georgia VFW State Jr. Vice Commander Jim Willis presented a 75th Diamond Jubilee award from Veterans of Foreign Wars National Headquarters. While speaking, he also mentioned how uncommon it is for a post to have such a long history in a community.

The final event for the evening was Mayor Charles Schwabe presenting a new lease for the land where the Emanuel County Veterans Center Building sits to the Emanuel County Veterans Association. This new lease will maintain the property for the Veterans for the next 100 years.

The Emanuel County Veterans Association membership includes all veterans and their immediate family members and maintains the building where both the American Legion Swainsboro Post 103 and Lanier-Moore VFW Post 5745 hold their monthly meeting and events for veterans. The building was constructed in 1946, and for the past seven months, has undergone renovations to include floors sanding and refinish (original flooring), painting, new cabinets in the kitchen, and it is still ongoing. The VFW Post 5745 would like to thank those from the community that donate, especially the Mill Creek Foundation and Walmart for grants to make this all possible. The veterans of this great county plan to continue being a supporter of the community for many years to come.
