Lady Bobcats softball team sweeps South Georgia State

The East Georgia State College Lady Bobcats Softball Team secured a spot in the May 11 – 13, Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association State Conference Softball Tournament by sweeping South Georgia State College by a scores of 10 to 4 in game one and 5 to 3 in game two this past Friday afternoon at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats were led in game one by Britney Foster on the mound allowing no runs through four innings of work. Freshman Cierra Kinlaw came in to close out the fifth through seventh innings and seal the victory for the Bobcats. The Lady Bobcats were led at the plate in game one by a host of hitters led by Summer Alexander and Alyssa Barbrick who each had a double and a single on the day. Bailey Davis, Lexi McQuaig, Dani Wells and Stephanie Ruffin all had two hit days at the plate in game one. Game two was all Bobcats from the first inning forward as the Bobcats scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Cierra Kinlaw held South Georgia to just three runs in five innings of work with Carly Forrester getting the save and closing out the seventh inning for the Bobcat victory and sweep of South Georgia in game two. Lexi McQuaig led all batters in game two with three singles. McKenzie Wilkerson, Alyssa Barbrick, and Raegan Sterrett each had RBIs for the Bobcats in route to a 5-3 victory. “I am so proud of our team and their accomplishment of securing themselves a bid in the conference tournament in May with the victories over South Georgia State College,” stated Head Coach Chuck Wimberly. “Our team has done so well this season, and I am so proud of the way we have competed all season. Their hard work has earned them a tremendous opportunity to compete for the conference title in the tournament in May.”
