The Lady Bobcats pushed the number one ranked team to the final out but fell 6 to 5. The team traveled to Gordon State on Tuesday, May 11 to play a best of three series against Gordon State.
In game one Gordon State defeated the Lady Bobcats 9 to 0. It looked like Gordon was going to make quick work of the Bobcats, but they had other plans in mind for game two as the Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early 3 to 1 lead in the first inning.
Head Coach Chuck Wimberly threw three pitchers at Gordon in game two: Madison Poole, Madison Bussell and Mattie Cash. This difference in pitching styles and changes every two innings seemed to confuse the batters and gave the Bobcats a chance in the elimination game.

The Bobcats pushed two more runs across to go up 4 to 3 in the fifth inning with Gordon on the Bobcat’s heels.
In the top of the seventh inning Gordon pulled ahead of the Bobcats by a score of 6 to 4 with the Bobcats batting in the bottom of the seventh inning. Alaina Lee would lead off with a single for the team followed by a single from Taylor Morgan and Sierra Taylor, scoring Alaina Lee to cut the lead to 6 to 5 with runners at first and second for the Bobcats with just one out. Dani Wells and McKenzie Wilkerson hit potential game winning deep hits to the warning track only to see Gordon make the catch on the warning track up against the fence to close out the 2021 softball season.
“We played outstanding ball against a very good team and our entire team gave it all they had. I am so proud of our Lady Bobcats and their amazing season on the softball diamond. These ladies will cherish this season and the memories of this season for a lifetime,” said Head Coach Chuck Wimberly.
