Kiwanis Club continues to aid community

The Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, under the leadership of President Dess Smith, continues to offer help in our community throughout this unprecedented time. When an opening was available at Presbyterian Apartments for a new resident who had no furniture or other belongings other than clothing, the administration contacted Petite Garrett, who had initiated the club’s involvement in the Adopt-a-Senior project back in September.

President Smith was then contacted, and working with the United Methodist Men at First Methodist Church; Judy Womack, Ann Peebles, and Wilder Smith, friends who saw the need; local businessman, Asa Garrett at Custom Furniture; and Kiwanis members, Bobbie Daughtry, Petite Garrett, Tracy Mason, Dianna Wedincamp, and Monica Wren; along with Circle K member, Breana Librizzi, the apartment was quickly filled.

Items donated included a bed and mattress set, a couch, a dining room table with chairs, bed linens, blankets, towels, kitchen and bathroom necessities, pantry items, a microwave, a coffee maker, a complete set of dishes, silverware, pots and pans, an end table, and a lamp.

Smith said that the resident was overwhelmed with the club and community’s generosity, and reflected that Swainsboro is a wonderful place to live.
