Kelley Thompson, 60, of Swainsboro, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord while surrounded by his loving family and friends on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at his residence. Graveside service will be private.

Kelley was born March 24, 1962, in Swainsboro, to Christopher Kelley Thompson and Patsy F. Thompson. He attended Swainsboro High School, earned his GED, and later enlisted in the U. S. Navy. After three years of duty, he was honorably discharged for health reasons. Kelley worked in several businesses in the Douglas area for years before ultimately finding his way back to Swainsboro. Along with faithfully caring for his parents, he found his true passion in a position with Emanuel County Animal Shelter. Kelley’s love and compassion for animals never wavered, and there was never a dog or cat he didn’t want to bring home. Kelley was an avid reader. He mostly enjoyed biographies and history, but would venture into most any subject. Kelley enjoyed every minute spent with his fur baby, Rudy, and cared for him fervently. He was also a lover of music and movies – an interest shared with his father. Kelley acquired quite an eclectic collection of albums, CDs, and DVDs over the years. He was kind, compassionate, and always saw the best in others. Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his father; maternal grandparents, Rudolph and Martha Fields; and paternal grandparents, Linwood and Mary Thompson.

Survivors include his mother, Patsy F. Thompson of Swainsboro; sister, Melonie Jordan (Eddie) of Swainsboro; brother, Tracy Thompson of Swainsboro; nephews, Zach Thompson and Tyler Thompson, both of Dallas, GA; fur baby, Rudy; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The staff at PruittHealth Hospice of Swainsboro were remarkable in every way for caring for Kelley and the family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for their dedication and care.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial donations be made to Emanuel County Animal Shelter, 343 Market Street, Swainsboro, Georgia 30401.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
