Mrs. Joyce Johnson Artis, age 84, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022. A Homecoming Celebration was held Saturday, May 21, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Garfield with Pastor Jerry Armstrong officiating.
Mrs. Artis was born January 24, 1938, to the late Wesley and Cleo Johnson. She attended school in Swainsboro, and joined Smith Grove Church at an early age. Mrs. Artis was joined in holy matrimony to the later Herbert Artis, Sr. After many years, she retired from Swainsboro Nursing Home. Mrs. Artis is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters; five brothers; son, Aaron Anderson; and daughter, Samantha Artis.
Mrs. Artis leave to cherish her memories with three sons, Hubert Artis of San Diego, CA, Arthur Anderson and Gene Anderson, both of Swainsboro; seven daughters, Janet Anderson of Newport News, VA, Teresa Artis and Gloria (Budan) Murphy, both of Swainsboro, Carolyn Anderson of Soperton, Linda Johnson of Brooklyn, NY, Tammy Worthen and Tiffany Worthen, both of Swainsboro; two sisters, Jackie (Eddie) Worthen of Swainsboro and Bettie Bass of Macon; sister-in-law, Gloria Artis of Swainsboro; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
