John William “J.W.” Hook, 73

Mr. John William “J.W.” Hooks, 73, of Swainsboro, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at AU Medical Center in Augusta following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 13, at 11 a.m. at El Bethel Baptist Church with Reverends Joe Bedgood, Louis Pearce and Ray Jenkins officiating. Interment followed in Eastbrook Cemetery & Mausoleum. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 12, at Chapman Funeral Home. In compliance with the guidelines set by the CDC, 6-feet rule was enforced during visitation and service.
Pallbearers were Larry Morrison, Jeff Newsome, Bobby Mason, Cliff Mason, Ben Thompson, Shawn Riner, and Chris Fowler. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Henry, Raymond Riner, Joe Kirkland, Steve Johnson, and Stebo Moore.
Mr. Hooks was born February 21, 1947, in Swainsboro, to the late John A. Hooks and Burnell Fordham Hooks. He was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Hooks is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Taylor Hooks; and sister, Connie Oglesby.  
Survivors include his wife, Mickey Hooks of Swainsboro; son, Shawn (Brook) Hooks of Swainsboro; daughter, Tabatha (Ray) Downer of Swainsboro; brother, Ronnie Hooks of Tampa, FL; sisters, Hazel Harris of Mobile, AL and Vickie Gay of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Jarrod (Susannah) Downer, Jada Downer, Chase Hooks, Makayla Clifton, Charla Clifton, and William Tate Hooks; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
