Introducing The UnCommon Cru, Inc.

Posted

Ben Troup, a Swainsboro native and former Florida All-American and NFL football player, is excited to announces the upcoming launch of Swainsboro’s new non-profit organization, The Uncommon Cru.
The UnCommon Cru, Inc. is a 501c3 organization dedicated to impacting the lives of high school boys through intrusive mentoring and philanthropy. Founded this year, the organization was created due to the needs Troupe saw in his community, where many of the young men are of single parent impoverished households that had no father-figure present.
The UnCommon Cru is partnered with high schools and colleges in the communities that we serve, with aims of matriculating the high school boys into college, entrepreneurship, military, or the workforce because we realize that failure is not failure until it is accepted but a tool to be used to propel them towards success.
“Growing up in Swainsboro, I have an understanding on what local needs are and we’re filling a need. There are many young men growing up in single family homes that need to know people in the community care about them, even if they’re not related.” Troup stated.
Ben Troup is the son of John Troup, CEO and Founder of Men Reaching Men, a local non-profit organization focused on improving the quality of life within the community by helping those in need through Christian values. While in the seventh grade, he relocated to Augusta with his mother, but always considers Swainsboro as one of his homes.
During a recent interview with Ben on Monday, he advised that the building has been secured, board members have been conducted for the non-profit organization, as well as all paperwork requirements being completed. Plans to launch the program are in the works and are estimated to take place during the end of this year or beginning of 2022.
“This has been a collaborative effort that has allowed us the opportunity to give back, but it will take more than just us,” Ben stated.
Individuals who have played a vital role in the non-profit organization thus far include Troup, Shayna Boston, Antre’ M. Drummer, Shon Nobles, SHS Principal Brandon Andrews and others.
“There have been a lot of moving parts on this project, and we’re appreciative of how far we have come and for those who have helped along the way,” Troup further stated.
