Herrington Homestead’s Annual Fishing Derby welcomed 35 youth anglers accompanied by angling partners to Emanuel County over the recent weekend for some outdoor fishing fun. On Saturday, April 30, derby participants traveled Highway 297 to Nunez to test their luck at wetting some hooks at the homestead’s campus pond. Registration began at 7:30 a.m. and weigh-in followed at 11:30 a.m. After a morning of fishing around the pond dam, derby participants, both young and young at heart, enjoyed fellowship over a grilled hot dog lunch prepared by homestead employees and volunteers.
In addition to each youth participant receiving a new fishing pole, awards for longest, heaviest and most caught fish were awarded. Winners of the 2022 Herrington Homestead Annual Fishing Derby are Trevon Glover, longest fish; Raheem Tarver, heaviest fish; and Lori Grace Moore, most fish.
