Mr. Herbert Eugene “Gene” Waters, Jr., 66, of Aline, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Candler County Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services were Saturday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at Cool Spring Baptist Church with Reverend Vic Fordham and Reverend Barry Anderson officiating. Interment followed in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers were past and present members of Young Farmer’s Association.
Mr. Waters was born June 28, 1954 in Gainesville, FL to the late Herbert Eugene Waters, Sr. and Donnie Dukes Waters. He was raised in Palatka, FL where he graduated from Palatka South High School and later attended St. John’s River Junior College. When he moved to Aline and married Johnie and Betty’s daughter, Donna, he was immediately accepted into the Drigger and Bell clan as one of their own. Mr. Waters then became an Aline adopted son. He retired as a meat cutter for several grocery stores, a job he started while in high school. Mr. Waters was also a beloved substitute teacher at Metter High School. He loved his home, garden, and visiting Daytona Beach. Mr. Waters served in several positions, including president of Candler County Young Farmer’s Association for many years. He attended Cool Spring Baptist Church. Mr. Waters is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Aline; brothers, Gary (Debra) Waters of Virginia Beach, VA, and Wendell (Tara) Waters of Hope Mills, NC; sisters, Linda (Billy) Hawkins and Brenda Waters, both of Jacksonville, FL; nieces, Krystal, Joy, and Gabby; nephews, Jonathan, Curtis, Jr., Eugene, Jeremy, and Aaron; several great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces; many cousins and friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
