The October 2024 term of the Emanuel County Grand Jury reconvened on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, with The Honorable Judge Robert S. Reeves presiding. The grand jurors elected Gail Williamson to serve as foreperson, Melissa Cann to serve as assistant foreperson, and Kala Allmond to serve as clerk. Judge Robert S. Reeves appointed Patrick Sweet to serve as bailiff. The grand jurors and bailiff were sworn in by Judge Robert S. Reeves as to their duties.
The grand jury considered 29 bills of indictment, involving 33 defendents, submitted to it by the office of the District Attorney, returning 27 true bills and 2 no bills.
The Emanuel County Jail must be inspected annually by the Grand Jury, as required by law. A committee of grand jurors was selected and will tour and inspect the jail at a later date and time to be determined and will submit its findings to the Grand Jury as a whole at the next meeting.
There being no further business, the Grand Jury recessed, subject to recall, this 30th day of October, 2024.
