Grand jury returns 40 true bills, two no bills

The October 2019 term of Emanuel County Grand Jury convened for two days beginning Tuesday, October 15, with The Honorable Kathy S. Palmer presiding. The grand jurors elected Eric McElwain to serve as foreperson, Keith Loveday to serve as assistant foreperson, and Natalie Williams to serve as clerk. Judge Palmer appointed Jimmy Harper to serve as bailiff. The grand jurors and the bailiff were sworn by Judge Palmer as to their duties.

During the two-day process, the district attorney’s office presented 41 bills of indictment to the grand jury, and the grand jury returned 39 true bills and two no bills. True bills were as follows:

Matthew Dekane Dyches — Two counts homicide by vehicle in the first degree, one count driving under the influence of drugs, and one count failure to maintain lane.

Christopher Thomas Hatton — One count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, two counts aggravated assault on a peace officer, three counts possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one count hijacking a motor vehicle, one count armed robbery, and one count theft by taking.

William Johnathan Conner — One count homicide by vehicle in the first degree, one count driving under the influence of drugs, and one count disregarding traffic control device.

Alice Hudson — One count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count obstruction of an officer, and one count speeding.

Darrian James Worthen — One count possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count criminal use of an article with an altered identification mark, and two counts giving false information.

Clayton O’Connor Watson — One count possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, one count obstruction of an officer, one count suspended license, one count seat belt violation, and one count distracted driver.

Lannie Howard Morris Jr. — One count possession of methamphetamine, one count driving under the influence of drugs, and one count possession of marijuana (less than one ounce).

Ashley Colten Driggers — One count possession of methamphetamine, one count driving under the influence of drugs, one count possession of drug related objects, and one count seat belt violation.

Leon Timothy Bush — One count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count cruelty to a child, one count violation of limited driving permit, one count reckless driving, one count no proof of insurance, and one count no tag.

Jimmy Lee Williamson — One count pandering for person under 18.

Colby Spence Price — Two counts entering an automobile and two counts theft by taking.

Patrick Lee Wentzel — One count possession of methamphetamine, one count suspended license, and one count distracted driver.

Krista Marie Brown — One count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), and one count possession of drug related objects.

Kevin Riner — One count possession of methamphetamine, one count possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), one count revoked license, and one count taillight violation.

April Lynne Henry — One count possession of methamphetamine, one count possession of oxycodone, one count possession of alprazolam, one count possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), and one count seat belt violation.

Jody Dewayne Gay — One count aggravated assault.

Spencer Jerrod Bell — One count kidnapping, one count false imprisonment, and one count battery (family violence).

Cierra Melva Miles — One count possession of methamphetamine, one count possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), and one count theft by shoplifting.

Jerjuan Marquis Hunter — One count possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count obstruction of an officer, and one count giving false information.

Modesta Jean Ellison — One count arson in the first degree

Donna Jane Winters — One count possession of methamphetamine and one count possession of drug related objects.

Deidra Rhianne Jackson — One count possession methamphetamine and one count possession of drug related objects.

Johnathan Amus Riner — One count possession of methamphetamine and one count possession of marijuana (less than one ounce).

Dustin Allen Sikes — One count escape and one count theft by taking.

Corenthius Damal Lakeith Wilcher — One count possession cocaine with intent to distribute.

Albert Lee Davis — One count aggravated assault.

Frisscardo Garnell Bostic — One count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count possession of cocaine, and one count interference with government property.

Melissa Gillis Brubaker — One count possession methamphetamine, one count possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), and one count possession of drug related object.

Dakota Wayne Scott — One count possession of methamphetamine.

Rodrigus Antuan Freeman — One count possession of cocaine, one count driving under the influence of drugs, and one count possession of marijuana (less than one ounce).

Veronica Ann Kelly — One count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count driving under the influence of alcohol, one count reckless driving, and one count hit and run.

Jason Blane Coggins — One count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and one count obstruction of an officer.

La’Shannon Nicole Godfrey — One counts theft by shoplifting.

Felicia Montgomery Reynolds — One count theft by shoplifting.

Kimberly Marie Farrow — One count possession of cocaine and one count possession of Clonazepam.

Tealia S. Clark — One count sale of marijuana and two counts sale of methamphetamine.

Leanne Nicole Shaw — One count possession of methamphetamine and one count theft by shoplifting.

David Timothy Johnson — One count possession of methamphetamine, one count driving under the influence of drugs, and one count possession of drug related objects.

Mary Ann Temples — One count possession of Alprazolam and one count possession of marijuana (less than one ounce).

Christopher John Nelson — One count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and one count aggravated battery on a peace officer.

No bills:

Wiley Edward Chance III — One count aggravated assault.

Quinton Tobias Dukes — One count aggravated assault.

The Emanuel County Jail must be inspected annually by the grand jury, as required by law. A committee of seven grand jurors was selected and will tour and inspect the jail on Friday, November 8, at 9 a.m. and will submit its findings to the grand jury as a whole at the next meeting.

There being no further business, the grand jury recessed until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, as of October 16, 2019.
