Today, we have embarked upon a different time and a different era. Things we did as a society have changed. Our social activities, our schools, our church services, and even the family structure have all been altered. We are blessed to know that when all the things have been rearranged, God is still the same. According to Hebrews 13:8, He is the same God yesterday, today, and forever more. God keeps His word. This is why we should be thankful to Him. He continues to fulfill all that He said in His word.
These words are written in Numbers 23:19 — "God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?" This is a reminder that His word is truth. He keeps His word. Not long ago, a person’s word or promises were considered to be binding. People would state it, and others believed it. A person's word was so factual in olden days that many business deals were completed with just a handshake. Unfortunately, this is not true today. Most promises given in the present society are given with no real intentions of being fulfilled.
God honors what He has spoken. 2nd Peter 3:9 states, "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." Even if God has to lift us out of the circumstances by miraculous intervention, He does exactly as promised. He has always been truthful. Lying is not a part of His character. He keeps His word.
In Genesis 12:2, God made several promises to Abraham. Some of them were: one, I will make you a great nation; two, I will bless you and make your name great; and three, you shall be a blessing. Abraham was 75-years-old when these promised were declared unto Him. Many years passed and nothing happened. Sarah interfered, trying to help God out. When it did not come out the way she wanted it to, she started making other arrangements. This decision caused her problems in her home and in her marriage. God did not forget. At 100-years-old, the promise was fulfilled. From that promised child, everything that God spoke to Abraham came to pass. We must trust God no matter what because God keeps His word.
It is difficult to believe that He is always there when certain things take place in our lives, but be encouraged. God knows what is going on. He keeps His word. He is there every step of the way. The poem "Footprints in the Sand" is a good illustration of this. In this work, the poet describes how when the person's life was fine, there were two sets of footprints. When difficulties came, there was only one set of footprints. The end of the poem tells how God kept His word never to leave us nor forsake us. It was said that during the hard times, God carried that person through those situations. He will do the same for us. Always remember, God keeps His word.
