On May 16, 2022, The Glad Garden Club was fortunate enough to celebrate its year-end “picnic” at the lovely home of Lisa Parham, a new member to the club. After appetizers and social time on the grand covered back porch by the pool, members entertained a pot-luck luncheon in the dining room. Each member was surprised by a gift of gardening gloves and a packet of gladiolus bulbs at each place setting. A feast of the old-fashioned kind was had by all to include potato salad, pimento cheese sandwiches, pineapple sandwiches, crab sandwiches, broccoli salad, deviled eggs, and other delights. Meal was topped off by dessert of a stunning fifteen-layer cake provided by Lisa. Club members were also honored to have a special visit from long-time member Mary Shepherd all the way from her home in Butler, Georgia. Lisa’s home is so new that members offered ideas on future landscaping endeavors that are needed.
After an extended disruption of activities due to Covid, Glad Garden Club is proud to finally getting back to a somewhat schedule. Although this is our last club meeting for our fiscal year, we will still be busy this summer planting, watering, and getting ready for a new year. We are thrilled to be able to maintain our clubs’ programs throughout the year and work hard in our endeavors to make our community more beautiful. It is quite evident that the Glad Garden Club has brought beauty and love to Emanuel County through its tireless efforts. We support the community through beautification, hard work and donation of money, time, and love while having a good time. We would be totally remiss if we didn’t give a great big thank you to Mayor Bennett, for his enthusiastic support and guidance with all our projects. It is greatly appreciated! Our work at the Butterfly Garden at Pine Brook Park couldn’t have been accomplished without the dedication of Jeanette Hall and Audrey West along with the aid of Tony Mangieri of the City of Swainsboro. Club members, headed by Jeanette Hall, work throughout the year to maintain, and replenish our entrances to the Great Crossroads of the Old South. Perhaps the greatest joy the club receives is decorating the Emanuel Medical Center at Christmastime. It is so very rewarding to hear expressions of thankfulness from community members.
We hope to be back in full swing in September so as always, if you like playing in the dirt, and even if you don’t, we have all kinds of projects going on and welcome all those interested in the beautification of our community. We usually meet at the Sudie A. Fulford Community learning Center located on the campus of East Georgia State College at 10 a.m. on the second Monday of each month September through May but our September meeting is at the beautiful farm of Carolyn and Von Brown on September 12, 2022.
