Gertrude Durden Ackiss, 86, of Norristown, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at the Treutlen County Health and Rehab in Soperton. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, graveside services were held Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Reverend Vonn Johnson officiating.
Mrs. Ackiss was born in Emanuel County to the late Anguish Leaird Durden and Sadie Youmans Durden. She had worked as a PBX operator for many years. Mrs. Ackiss was a member of the Norristown Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Ackiss, Sr.
Survivors include 3 sons, Billy D. Freeman of Norristown; Jerry L. (Von) Wilson of Norristown, and John H. Ackiss, II of Henderson, NV; daughter, Carrie Sue Skondin of Portland, OR; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice in memory of Gertrude D. Ackiss.
