Garfield Community Club hosts September meeting

Members of the Garfield Community Club convened Thursday, September 3, for a regularly scheduled meeting. Calling the meeting to order was Vice-president Sharon Cowart. All members recited the pledge of allegiance, and devotion and prayer were led by Janice Hendley, who read the devotion from Embraced 100 Devotions. The scripture verse was Isaiah 54:10 corresponding with the theme of “Knowing that God loves us”.

Club members then recited the club moto prior to Jewell Donaldson reading the club creed and JoAnn Trammell reading club objectives.

Roll call performed by Cowart indicated five members present and one visitor, Mattie Grace Snellgrove.

A motion to approve the treasurers report presented by Cowart was made by Judy Phillips and seconded by Trammell. Phillips then presented the correspondence report that highlighted a birthday card being sent to Maudine Johnson and a get-well card being sent to Betty Bussiere.

In reference to old business:

•Air conditioner repairs were discussed, and club members are in hopes of future use of the unit following rendered repairs.

In reference to new business:

•Club members pondered on new ideas to best utilize Love Offering money.

•Johnson stated that her and her spouse, Kenneth, are not doing well and requested prayers.

The club prayer was then recited by Trammell.

The hostess for this meeting was Juanita Sikes, who provided a Hershey bar cake and beverages for club members.

The next meeting is set for 2:30 p.m. on October 1 and will be hosted by Donaldson and Maria Woodger.
