Five Wins for Lady Dawgs Softball

The ECI softball team completed their marathon week on Saturday capturing their fifth win in the Jeff Davis Tournament in Hazlehurst. The Bulldogs are currently 14-1 for the season with a 6-0 region record.

During the week before the tournament the Lady Dawgs out-scored their 3 opponents 42-0. The pitching staff and defense allowed a meager 5 hits during the 3 games.

Tuesday, September 7 the Bulldogs took the long bus ride to Darien to take on McIntosh Co. The Buccaneers were no match for the hot Bulldogs, losing in just 3 innings 16-0. The Bulldogs put double digits on the board in the first inning scoring 11 runs. They tacked on one more in the second and 4 more in the third to run rule the Bucs 16-0.

Kelsey Harper led the Bulldogs in hits during the game with two. Eight other Dawgs got one hit each including Charla Clifton smacking her third homerun of the season.

Sullee Boddiford stood in the circle allowing just one hit with one strikeout.

On Wednesday the team played a make-up game against the Tigers in Swainsboro.

It was a scoreless game until the top of the fourth inning when the Lady Dawgs posted 4 runs on singles by Harper, Lily Robertson and Macy Cannady. Boddiford cleared the bases with a double for a 4-0 ECI lead.

The Bulldogs exploded for 8 runs in the fifth inning to lead 12-0. Clifton struck out the side in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Clifton and her defense were one error away from recording a perfect game. The only Tiger batter to reach base was on an error in the fourth inning. The junior pitcher no hit Swainsboro while recording 7 strikeouts.

Macy Canady led the hit parade with three hits. Shayla Stephenson recorded 2 hits including her first homerun of the season. Harper and Ally Taylor ended the game with a couple hits. Kayanna Thompson, Robertson and Boddiford got one hit each.

Playing their third game in as many days the Bulldogs hosted Metter on Thursday run ruling their third opponent of the week 14-0.

The Bulldogs struck quick with 6 runs crossing the plate in the first inning to take an early 6-0 lead. They added to their lead in the third with 3 runs and ended the game in the fourth inning scoring 5 more for a 14-0 win against the Tigers.

The Bulldogs owned the base paths swiping 7 against the Tigers.

Boddiford, pitching her second game of the week allowed just 4 hits with 1K.

Stephenson and Harper continued their hot streak at the plates getting 2 hits each. With Canady, Boddiford and Jayna Kearson getting the other hits for the Bulldogs.

The Lady Dawgs completed the marathon week in Hazlehurst defeating Pierce Co. 4-2 and Bacon Co. 6-3 in the Jeff Davis Tournament.

The Bulldogs have 3 more games this week including another tournament at Southeast Bulloch on Saturday.

Monday, they played a make-up region game against Screven Co. The Gamecocks are currently undefeated at 6-0 with a 3-0 region record. Tuesday the Bulldogs host Jenkins Co. and McIntosh Co. on Thursday.

Saturday they are scheduled to play in the SEB Diamond Day tournament in Brooklet.
