What is the first thing you do every morning? Life is always filled with things we feel we need to get done. In prioritizing our tasks or "to do list", it's about doing important things first. Whether it's in our home or on our job or in our personal lives, there are certain things which take precedence over others. When we do the necessary things first, life will be less stressful.
Some have said that the bible is our, " Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth". Now if that relates to you, then let's see what it says about setting priorities. In Matthew chapter six Jesus instructs his disciples with the "sermon on the mountain." In it he teaches us what should be priority and why.
Jesus instructs us not to worry, or be anxious about basic things in life. He said to just serve God because you cannot serve God and money. You will love one and hate the other. He said don't worry about food. He feeds his birds and they do not plant anything. Don't worry about clothes. He clothes the flowers of the field and they are beautiful. So if we are not to worry about food and clothes, what should we do first?
In verse thirty-three, Jesus gives us the answer. His instruction is, " But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness: and all these things will be added unto you." So do I sit and do nothing? How am I going to get things done? Well keep reading the bible. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths".
Now in Romans 14:17 Paul tells us, " For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.". When we seek the kingdom of God, which is spiritual, he will supply the natural. For in Philippines 4:19, Paul reminds us, "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
So our priority is to continually seek God in all that we do. He will instruct us what to do, when to do it, and how to do it, if we seek him first in all things. So our priority is to make him priority. Just put God first.
