First appearance hearing for Sutton held Friday

Dakota Shaman Sutton, 24, of Stillmore appeared for a first appearance hearing today at 1 p.m. in Emanuel County Superior Court. Presiding over the case was the Honorable Judge Robert S. Reeves.

Allegedly, Sutton is responsible for the death of Stillmore resident Larry Hadden, 72, who died as a result of wounds inflicted during an altercation that occurred between the two parties.

At approximately 9 p.m., Thursday, November 18, Stillmore Police Department and Emanuel County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an altercation involving the two males.Upon arrival of law enforcement, Hadden was pronounced dead and Sutton had already fled the scene.

On-scene law enforcement began a diligent search to locate Sutton and requested assistance from Swainsboro Police Department’s K9 Unit and GSP Aviation. At approximately 1 a.m., a tip regarding Sutton’s whereabouts was received by Emanuel County 9-1-1. Law enforcement responded to the area of U.S 1 and Lexsy-Stillmore Road and made contact with Sutton. After a short pursuit on foot, Sutton was apprehended and taken into custody on two separate warrants for aggravated assault (knife) and murder.

No bond was set.
