Fire destroys workshop in Swainsboro

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, a Swainsboro police officer discovered a structure fire at 516 Jones Avenue. Responding Swainsboro firefighters were alerted that a shed was fully involved. Engine 3 arrived to find a full-sized, garage-style wood frame building with heavy fire showing. Backed up by firefighters from Engine 6, an inch and three quarters attack line was operated to knock down the heavy fire. The fire caused heavy damage to part of the roof and walls and the contents of the workshop. The fire was placed under control by 10:30 p.m., with firefighters remaining until after 11 p.m.

The cause of the blaze is presently undetermined. Emanuel County EMS, special operations 201, and sheriff’s deputies also responded.
