Family Connection serves the children and families at the Early Head Start program through a "WIC Matters" grant. The grant objective is to encourage and educate families of the use of their WIC Benefits. The main focus is to increase the redemption of the fruit and vegetable vouchers.

Activities like farmers markets, cooking classes and take-home packet distributions give the families nutrition education and resources to get maximum use of their WIC benefits and prepare healthy meals for their families.

On March 23rd, Family connection sponsored a free farmers market at the Early Head Start. Farmer Pete Jackson supplies the produce and Family Connection gives recipes and nutrition tips on how to serve the foods to their young children. On this day cabbage, onions, tomatoes, and other fresh produce was given to every family.

On March 31st, Family Connection gave each family recipes using carrots and tips on how to get young children to eat these healthy foods. Also in the bags, the children received "Carrie Carrot'', a plush toy to encourage them to want to try carrots that came with the nutritional facts about eating carrots.
